Jamal Reid is a change agent for social and political improvement through arts, education and entrepreneurship. Hip Hop, his chosen art form, has always been socially involved. Thus, it was only natural to become an activist. Recognizing art as a catalyst for social change, social and political messages run deep within his music, paintings and dance.
Involving himself in community organizing and the arts while earning his BBA in International Business at The George Washington University. Jamal collaborated with fellow students to create the Urban Arts Family - a student organization designed to teach the GWU population about the culture of Hip Hop. During this time he also organized mentor programs as a member of AmeriCorps.
Realizing a void in physical, financial and spiritual guidance within youth and adults, Jamal has developed a variety of workshops. Topics include Goal Setting, Time Management, Diversity/Tolerance, Anger Management, Artistic Development/Promotion, Finance, Small Business Development, Personal Development, and the Laws of Success. These elements are present within his art workshops as well as being separate workshops unto themselves.
Jamal has taken all four elements of Hip Hop and developed teaching curricula to impart socio-economic history from the 1960's to the present, as well as developing creativity. From teaching creative writing through the art of the MC, to dance, martial arts and fitness through Breakdancing. Showing graffiti as an art form through his Aerosol Arts class, and teaching music through the art of the DJ. His business endeavors include owning an Educational Entertainment company, Real Estate investment, Personal Training and Snowboard Coaching, as well as partnering in a Multi Media Consulting firm and a Capitol Hill Service firm.
